Assessment Terminology Curriculum of Place project - Health Fair Discussion Forums - Graduate classes Alumni survey Newsletter Article
|
In order to meet goal number 4, it is important to be able
to communicate effectively with my students, parents, other teachers,
administration, and peers.
One of the most important parts of effective communication is to use appropriate terminology at the proper time. For my first artifact, I created a dictionary of assessment terminology. In order to communicate with parents, administration, and assessment personnel, it is important to understand the assessment terminology, but also be able to help parents understand the information. By creating this dictionary, I have become more familiar with educational terminology, therefore better able to communicate with other professionals, parents, and community members. The second artifact I chose will demonstrate communication to students, parents, and community members. My Curriculum of Place project consists of holding a Health fair at Chester Area School. The information for the Health fair will be established by my Advanced Biology students, but I will be responsible for organizing the fair and publicizing it to the community. The information will show strong communication skills between my students and myself as well as communication between faculty staff and community members. With good communication throughout the project, this will become an annual event at Chester. I have also demonstrated good communication skills throughout various discussion forums in our graduate classes. Being able to communicate with my peers is probably one of the most difficult areas for me. I don’t have any trouble discussing matters with my students, but sometimes I am a little less outgoing when it comes to discussion among my peers. All of the discussion forums that I have been involved in throughout graduate school have been very helpful to me. These discussions have helped me become more confident in my ideas, and I have enjoyed being a part of all of the different groups. I think it is great to be able to present my ideas to others and also to have the opportunity to reply to my classmates. This sampling of my discussion forums shows that I have effectively communicated my ideas and suggestions to my peers. The forth artifact that displays effective communication skills is an alumni survey that I have developed. I try to continue to communicate with my students after they graduate. Several of my students will e-mail me to let me know how their individual classes are going in college. The information that they can provide to me is great. I think it is important to get information from all of the graduates, so I plan to send out an alumni survey to find out what they think we could improve on in terms of providing our students a better education. We need to know what we are doing well, and what we need to improve on. If we don’t ask, we probably will never know what our past graduates think of the education they received. My final artifact that provides evidence of communication to parents and community members is an example of one of the newsletter articles that I created this year. By submitting a newsletter article, the community is aware of what is happening in my classroom. I like to keep everyone informed of what we are studying and what type of activities we are including in our studies. It is very important to keep everyone informed, and a newsletter article is one way to be successful in informing parents and community members. These artifacts provide evidence that I have effective communication among students, parents, administration and peers. Communication is the key to every relationship. |
